ANSWERS: (2)   The tribe of Levi was set apart as priests unto the LORD, they did not directly inherit land in Israel with the other  tribes.  The Levites were given 48 cities within all the tribes (see Numbers 35).  Many of the Levites were carried off with the 10 northern tribes of Israel by the Assyrians, and the remainder  living in Judah and Benjamin were carried off later by the Babylonians.      Levi is the only tribe that connects all  the tribes, the ten northern tribes of the House of Ephraim, and the two southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin.  In modern times, some of the Levites have certainly returned with the Jews to the land of Israel.
